Do we possess a Christian Character?
Ephesians 4:32 (KJV). Be kind the Bible tells us. When a person is born again by the Spirit of God he/she becomes a new creature in Christ. The inherent nature of this life will then become gentle, gracious, kind, good and benevolent. We would hope this would be true of every person. Such characteristics will dominate the entire life of the person. They make up the real Christian personality.
When the Bible tells us to be tenderhearted it is in our relationship with other people, both saved and unsaved. We should be moved to love, to pity, to sorrow, to sympathy, and to understanding. We should always forgive one another no matter how hurt we get from others, especially of those not saved because they don't even know any better. A forgiving spirit is Christlike, for on the cross we are reminded how Christ prayed for those who had so cruelly treated Him and yet He said, Father forgive them for they know not what they do. He is our example. If He can forgive, so must we.
Jesus taught that His followers should be willing to forgive without limit. Even as God hath forgive us, so should we forgive others, especially those who despitefully use us. How many of us have people who USE us for their own selfish purposes? Learn to forgive them. Every Christian who tries really hard to live up to these Biblical standards will be a happier Christian. Let us have a Christian character. Let the world as well as our brothers and sisters in Christ, see Christ in us.
